Description: BACKGROUNDThe World Health Organization (WHO) has been providing technical assistance in vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and immunization programme since the inception of the immunization programme in the Kingdom of Tonga. There have been remarkable achievements in VPDs and immunization programmes over the past two decades. The country has remained polio-free since 2000, achieved maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination and managed measles outbreaks during global, regional and sub-regional widespread outbreaks in 2018-2019.Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has been working very closely with the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga and partners to protect people against COVID-19, save lives and reduce widescale social disruption.
